if at first you don't succeed...

Here's another pair of shorties I've started. Forgive the flash photo - the blue's not quite that bright in reality. With my 2nd babe I had dreams of using cloth diapers at least part of the time, to save a little cash. Driven to my sewing machine by the nesting instinct I made a bunch of small-sized all-in-ones (that's where the cloth and the liner/soaker are all one, fitted thing, and they have the shape of a disposable). It was a great plan. I'd have months and months to make the next size up after the baby came.

Yup. It was a great plan. And then the little stinker was born, and proved to be way bigger than the previous kid (ahem, perhaps that experiment to see if exercise - or lack of it - really would effect birth weight wasn't such a great idea)! And by way bigger, I mean too big for every single one of those AIO's I had sewn. I think that would have daunted just about anyone, and add to it the new-baby weariness, and I gave up the whole idea.

So this time around? I'm going to do my supplementing with good, old-fashioned, economical pre-folds and wool soakers & shorties (and maybe, with some exercising, I'll be able to use that stash of AIO's too).
Cross your fingers...

finished hanky

Okay. So I have a confession. Apparently I am (still) a geek. The last time I got a cold, I went to grab the tissues (okay, so in our house that's usually toilet paper), and, thinking of all the red, raw noses I've had before, I ignored the tissues and grabbed an old hanky. See, I thought I'd experiment on myself.
Why did we give up cloth hankies? It's not hard to throw a cotton square in the wash with your other things, so obviously it's because tissues are so much better, right?
Well, by the end of my cold, my nose wasn't the least bit red or raw, so that couldn't have been it. I have a sneaking suspision that it has something to do with money (how many times can you use a tissue?)... but at any rate, I've started a stash of the old fashioned hankies.
And I finally finished this one, which isn't for me, but it's finished regardless!

I stitched a verse (freehand!) around the edge for someone special, and when I was done with that I doodled the reference into the flowers that the girl's working with.

I think she'll be much loved, where she's going...

news

So this is what the boys looked like when we told them that there will be a baby joining us, Lord willing, this summer. They were so cute, both were so excited. And at random moments, even days afterword, Levi will say (in this sweet, awed voice), "Mama, I'm so excited that God put a baby in your tummy..." and Micah will nod in serious agreement.
We're right about the 16 week mark, in case you're wondering!
