farm museum

We slipped back in time at Carrol County Farm Museum. The kids had fun seeing farm animals again (all though these were the kind you do not touch), but the real highlight of the museum is all their exhibits. We learned about broom-making (for this region anyway), quilting, weaving cloth, spinning, tin smithing, and old-fashioned animal veterinarians (Levi's favorite, as it was just like our studies of life science at home). And we saw tons of old farm equipment and wagons.

They have done a great job with the grounds as well. I loved the irises! I mean, isn't it gorgeous?

And this was my favorite part of the exhibits. This woman has her distaff loaded with wool, and she's spinning away on that tiny wheel. But the crazy, wonderful thing that drew me to the image was the fact that there's also a book on her lap. Her fingers are flying along, but she's reading! Love it!

The tin smithery was cool, cause there was actually a couple of smithies at work! They were really nice, and showed the boys a couple of their cool machines.

The boys loved the corn cobb checker board (wouldn't that be a neat history project when we "officially" get to that era?)!
We were all worn out, slap-silly! Especially me and Micah!
It was a good day.

Camping!

So we piled up the sleeping bags, the cooler, the tent, and a small tub of camping gear, and went on our first camping trip with the boys. Daddy said we could stay on the grounds at his camp so that he could come and go for some of the fun! We cooked dinner on the fire, and caught a bunch of frogs. Then Daddy went back to work, so we hiked to the playground and played with a bunch of fun-loving counselors! They did a great job of wearing the boys out! Then we hiked back to our camp (we used one of the archery ranges:) and built the fire back up (despite all the wet wood, yay, Mama!). Me and the boys snuggled, and as requested, I told stories from "God's Word Book," as well as our favorite made-up character - Methusalah Mouse, who was hiking up a mountain seeking adventure.
We had a GREAT time camping!

April 13, 2009

Tada! M is officially two years old! To celebrate we went to Lion Country Safari! I think that's what we did when L turned two! It was so much fun! Here we are on the driving tour (speed limit is 8mph, and no one even does that, so no seatbelts required!)...
Check the mirror to see Nana...

Lawnmower...

Roadblock...

We had tons of animal photos, but I figure you can find those anywhere on the net, so I won't post them! My little monkeys are pretty entertaining enough as it is! L wanted to drop everything and build a tree-house right here:

L did great feeding the giraffe! And when M fed it, the giant snorted this hot blast of air in our faces! It was so funny, and didn't smell at all!
We went on the ferris wheel (a first for both boys)...

...and rode the sky dragons...
...and went on the merry-go-round (a first for M).

Road Trip!

Wow! What a trip! Everything went pretty smooth, and we only hit one really bad traffic spot (not true for the people driving north - shudder). The boys were GREAT!Here's the pics I managed to snap on the road...

Wish I could say more, but it took a very, very long time to load these pics, and I don't want to risk losing them! Thanks for all your travel prayers!

Happy 10th to Us!

What a surprise! My dear hubby took me down to Tavernier (Tah-vuh-neer) (which is one of the keys), and we had a sweet little get away! Our little cottage at Island Bay Resort was beautiful, quiet, and clean! I got a bunch of writing done for my second book, and relaxed!

What a beautiful place! I would totally recommend it to anyone! It was so sweet to spend time with just the two of us, which is the first time we've done that since the boys joined the family. 10 years - I am a blessed girl!
